Mild to moderate nausea and a few bouts of vomiting won’t threaten your baby’s wellbeing. If you lose too much weight and your health s compromised, your baby’s health could be at risk.
It’s generally not a problem if you don’t gain any weight in the first trimester, as long as you are able to stay hydrated and you are not starving yourself. Usually your appetite will return soon enough and you will start putting on weight.
However, you may need to go to hospital for excessive dehydration if you don’t drink enough or you are vomiting frequently.
It may be difficult to maintain a balanced diet as the nausea or vomiting may affect your appetite. It may be necessary to speak to your health care professional about your morning sickness.
