The term "Morning sickness" is the nickname for the medical term "NVP - nausea and vomiting in pregnancy". For some pregnant women, the symptoms of NVP are much worse in the morning, easing gradually throughout the day, but can occur at any time throughout the day.

Unfortunately for most women the symptom of morning sickness may last all day long. The intensity of morning sickness symptom can vary greatly from one women to the next.

Statistics claim that morning sickness affects around three quarters of all pregnant women during the first trimester.

  • Half of the pregnant women affected will experience both nausea and vomiting

  • One quarter will feel nauseous without vomiting

  • The other lucky quarter will not experience any morning sickness symptoms at all

Morning sickness typically begins at around week 6 in a pregnancy, however it can start as early as week 4.

By week 14 the around half of women no longer experience the symptoms of morning sickness. It may take a month or so for the majority of other women for the nausea to pass, however it may reoccur and then pass again throughout the pregnancy.

For a small percentage of unlucky women symptoms of morning sickness may reside for the duration of the pregnancy until delivery.
